Community Refrigerators

One of East Lubbock Art House's most impactful programs is their community refrigerators—these are non-working, repurposed units used as protected outdoor pantry spaces. Because they aren’t powered, they’re designated exclusively for shelf-stable, non-perishable foods.

Local artists, including the talented Adra's Touch, have reimagined each refrigerator, turning these repurposed units into colorful community landmarks. These fridges offer more than nourishment—they offer hope, dignity, and artwork that lifts the spirits of everyone who passes by.

We also love that these refrigerators get a second life instead of ending up in a landfill. As an appliance repair company, seeing old appliances repurposed in a way that directly helps neighbors is something that deeply resonates with us. Instead of becoming waste, these fridges become 24/7 community resources, providing dignity, access, and support to anyone who needs it.

These refrigerators are accessible around the clock, allowing neighbors to take what they need or contribute what they can at any time—no questions asked.

How Science Appliance Is Helping

From now through the end of the season, customers who donate two or more non-perishable items during their service appointment will receive:

10% off your total repair bill

But you don’t need a repair appointment to donate.
If you want to contribute items but aren’t scheduled for service, we will come pick up your donation from your home—completely free.
Just call or text our office, and we’ll add you to our pick-up list.

Acceptable items include:

• Non-perishables such as canned vegetables, beans, hearty soups, canned meats, pasta, rice, crackers, ramen noodles

• Pop-Tarts, peanut butter, bread, macaroni, chips, cookies

• Fresh produce like bananas or apples

• Bottled drinks like sports drinks or water

Important:
Because the refrigerators are not powered, NO refrigerated or frozen items and NO non-food items can be accepted.

Foods that require minimal kitchen access (ramen, canned meals, peanut butter, etc.) are especially helpful for neighbors who may not have full cooking facilities.
